Ashton
Keynes
Ashton
Keynes in Wiltshire has the infant River Thames
running beside the entire length of the main street and the houses
on this street are all reached by crossing small footbridges. Ashton
Keynes is located near the Cotswold
Water Park so if you are in the area, why not pay Ashton Keynes
a visit.
It
is in the heart of the Cotswold
Water Park, so Ashton Keynes is surrounded with lakes where
various water sports take place.
For
centuries a settlement has stood on this beautiful part of the Cotswolds.
The village was mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 when it was
called Essintone. For over 800 years the village had several name
changes, until around 120 years ago when it was named after the
Keynes family, who owned most of the land in the 13th-century.
Ashton
Keynes can be found a few miles from Cirencester, Somerford Keynes
and South Cerney.
